transient lingual papillitis (TLP) are small red and white spots on the tongue that appear and usually go away shortly. People also call these tongue rashes ‘lie bumps’ or ‘liar bumps’. The cause of transient lingual papillitis is not exactly known, but if it is not for infections and viruses, common risk factors can be eating spicy, acidic foods and drinks, sharp teeth or dental injuries, stress, alcohol consumption and smoking. It is inflammatory tongue condition that causes acute pain and it can be recurrent. Usually, no treatment is required unless it accompanies severe pain with bleeding on your tongue. Some simple home remedies like salt water rinse or topical anesthetics will alleviate the pain.
